Heather Dunaway Smith is an interdisciplinary artist, storyteller, and creative director who creates interactive experiences that connect people to the world, to one another, and to themselves. Her work blends storytelling, spatial design, and emerging technology to create participatory experiences where curiosity, presence, and emotion come first.

After studying playwriting in New York City, Heather discovered interactive storytelling through an early role at Apple, where she began working with computers as a creative medium. She went on to earn a degree in Interactive Multimedia and has since built a career spanning immersive art, XR, games, apps, virtual worlds, and museum and public installations. Along the way, she has led creative vision and execution for complex projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams from concept through launch while remaining deeply hands-on in the work.

Heather is a former Adobe AR Art Resident and was part of the first cohort of creators working with mixed reality experiences for Snap’s AR glasses and Meta’s Quest headsets. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Art Basel Miami Art Week and Adobe MAX, where she has also spoken and curated the 2022 AR Art Gallery.

Across her practice, Heather is driven by a belief in the power of art and storytelling to shape culture, foster connection, and help people slow down and imagine new ways of being together. As a creative leader, she is especially interested in building experiences that bring people into shared space, collaboration, and collective meaning.
